This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and service.

Our client is a well-established group of restaurants and casual dining venues in the Marston Green and Yardley areas, known for their quality food and excellent customer service. Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties

  • Kitchen & Back-of-House Support: Assisting chefs with basic food prep, washing dishes, pot washing, maintaining kitchen hygiene to EHO standards, and managing waste.
  • Front-of-House Assistance: Clearing and sanitising tables promptly, resetting tables for new guests, supporting wait staff during peak hours, and ensuring dining areas are spotless.
  • Stock & Storage Management: Receiving deliveries, checking stock against invoices, rotating stock using FIFO principles, and keeping storage areas organised and clean.
  • Cleaning & Maintenance: Performing deep cleaning tasks, including floors, equipment, and extraction systems. Ensuring all health and safety protocols are followed meticulously.
  • Team Collaboration: Working effectively as part of a team, communicating clearly with chefs, managers, and waiting staff to ensure smooth service and a positive working environment.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven Experience: Previous experience in a similar Restaurant Assistant, Kitchen Porter, or hospitality support role is highly desirable. A can-do attitude and willingness to learn are essential.
  • Reliability & Punctuality: This is a critical requirement. You must be dependable, able to start shifts on time, and committed to seeing your shift through to the end, especially during busy periods.
  • Physical Fitness & Stamina: The role involves prolonged standing, lifting, carrying, and moving stock. You should be physically fit and able to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
  • Food Safety Awareness: A basic Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2) is a strong advantage. An understanding of health, safety, and cleanliness standards in a kitchen is mandatory.
  • Right to Work: You must have the legal right to work in the UK. We will need to see relevant documentation as part of our registration process, which we can help guide you through.

Frequently Asked Questions

A Restaurant Assistant is a versatile support role crucial to the smooth running of any food service venue. Your duties are split between back-of-house (kitchen) and front-of-house (dining area) support. This includes washing dishes, basic food preparation, cleaning kitchen equipment, receiving deliveries, clearing and sanitising tables, and maintaining overall cleanliness. It's a physically active role that requires stamina, attention to detail, and a team-player attitude. It's an excellent entry point into the hospitality industry.

While previous experience in a kitchen, as a kitchen porter, or in a similar support role is a significant advantage, motivation and a strong work ethic are equally important to our clients. A Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2) is beneficial but not always essential for an immediate start; some clients may require you to complete it once you begin. The most critical qualities are reliability, punctuality, physical fitness, and a willingness to work hard as part of a team. We assess all candidates on their individual merits.

Shift patterns vary depending on the specific client's needs. Common shifts for Restaurant Assistants include: Early shifts (e.g., 7 am - 3 pm for prep and breakfast/lunch service), Late shifts (e.g., 3 pm - 11 pm for dinner service and close-down), and Weekend shifts (often the busiest). We discuss your availability during registration to match you with suitable shifts. Flexibility is key, and being available for evenings and weekends will open up more opportunities, much like the roles we advertise for Event Staff in HX1.

You are paid an hourly rate for all hours worked, which is paid directly into your UK bank account on a weekly basis. Your payslip will clearly detail your hours, rate, and any deductions. As a temporary worker, you are entitled to holiday pay under UK law. With labourer.agency, you accrue holiday pay based on the hours you work. This pay is either added to your weekly wage (rolled up) or can be saved and paid out when you take actual holiday – we'll explain the simple system during registration. It's a transparent and compliant process, consistent across all our roles, from Nursing Assistants in KY11 to Security Guards in Blackburn BB1.
