Key Responsibilities & Daily Tasks

As a standalone Picker/Packer, you will be entrusted with a range of duties that ensure the smooth operation of the warehouse. You must be adaptable and ready to take ownership of your workload.

• Accurate Order Picking: Using handheld RF scanners or pick lists to accurately select products from warehouse locations (racking, shelving, floor stock) based on customer orders. A focus on zero errors is paramount.
• Efficient Packing & Processing: Safely and securely packing picked items into appropriate cartons, polybags, or totes. This includes applying correct packaging materials, labelling, and ensuring each order is shipment-ready.
• Quality Control & Checking: Conducting visual checks on items for damage or discrepancies before packing. You will be responsible for the quality of the order that leaves your station.
• Inventory & Housekeeping: Assisting with basic stock counts, replenishing picking faces, and maintaining a clean, safe, and organised work area in line with site health and safety protocols.
• Meeting Performance Targets: Working to achieve individual and team targets for picks per hour (PPH) and packing accuracy. The role requires a consistent pace and good time management.
• Operating Equipment: Safely using manual pallet trucks, roll cages, and potentially other manual handling equipment (MHE) as required. Training for specific equipment will be provided.
• Standalone Problem-Solving: Identifying and reporting stock issues, system errors, or potential delays to a supervisor promptly, demonstrating initiative.

Candidate Requirements & Skills

To be successful in this standalone Picker/Packer role in Slough SL1, you will need to demonstrate the following attributes and experience. We value a strong work ethic above all.

• Proven Warehouse Experience: At least 6-12 months of recent experience in a similar picking and packing role, preferably within a fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), e-commerce, or retail distribution environment.
• Reliability & Self-Motivation: As a standalone worker, you must be punctual, trustworthy, and able to manage your own time effectively without constant oversight.
• Attention to Detail: A meticulous eye for detail to ensure order accuracy (right product, right quantity, right condition) and correct packaging.
• Physical Fitness: The role involves prolonged standing, walking, bending, and lifting. You must be capable of manual handling, typically involving repetitive lifting of items up to 20kg, sometimes with team assistance.
• Basic Numeracy & Literacy: Comfortable reading pick lists, understanding numbers, and using basic technology like handheld scanners.
• Safety Consciousness: A clear understanding of and commitment to safe working practices in a warehouse setting.
• Right to Work: Must have full, unrestricted right to work in the UK. We will need to see relevant documentation during registration.
