Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties

As a Sweeping Operative, your primary duty is to ensure all assigned areas are clean, tidy, and free from debris that could pose a safety hazard. This role supports the broader site team and is essential for compliance with health and safety regulations.

• Comprehensive Site Sweeping: Manually sweep and clean internal and external areas of construction sites, warehouses, and commercial premises, including walkways, entrances, loading bays, and car parks. This involves removing dust, mud, litter, and construction debris like off-cuts, packaging, and spillages.
• Waste Management & Disposal: Collect swept debris and waste into designated bins, skips, or bags. Ensure correct segregation of waste materials (e.g., general, recyclable, hazardous) in line with site policies and environmental regulations. Assist with moving and compacting waste as required.
• Operate Cleaning Equipment: Safely use and perform basic maintenance on powered cleaning equipment such as industrial sweepers, blowers, and pressure washers, after receiving appropriate training. Report any equipment faults immediately to the site supervisor.
• Hazard Identification & Reporting: Proactively identify and report potential safety hazards encountered during sweeping duties, such as wet floors, trailing cables, damaged surfaces, or unsafe stacking of materials. Your vigilance is a key part of the site's safety culture.
• Supporting Other Trades: Work cooperatively with other site personnel, including labourers, tradespeople, and site managers. Your role may involve light duties to assist the team, such as moving light materials, setting up barriers, or keeping access routes clear for deliveries and machinery.
• Adherence to PPE & Safety Protocols: Strictly wear all provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – including high-visibility clothing, safety boots, gloves, and dust masks – at all times. Follow all site induction training, method statements, and risk assessments meticulously.
