Job Description: Nursery Nurse (Birmingham B4)

labourer.agency is partnering with leading nurseries, pre-schools, and early years providers across the Birmingham B4 postcode area to recruit passionate and qualified Nursery Nurses and Early Years Practitioners. Our clients range from private day nurseries and Montessori settings to workplace nurseries and children's centres, all seeking skilled professionals to provide outstanding care and early education.

This is not just another temporary job; it's a gateway to a rewarding career in early years. Whether you're seeking flexible shifts to fit around other commitments, an immediate start after relocating, or a long-term temp-to-perm opportunity to settle into a fantastic nursery, we have roles to match your ambitions. Just as we successfully place Event Staff and Nursing Assistants, we specialise in connecting dedicated childcare professionals with the settings that need them most.

The Role & Your Impact

As a Nursery Nurse placed through labourer.agency, you will be an integral part of a child's early development. You'll work within a supportive team to create a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment where children from babies to pre-schoolers can learn, play, and grow. You'll follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, plan engaging activities, observe and track development, and build strong, trusting relationships with both children and their parents. For those also skilled in organisation, roles like Office Administrator within educational settings may also be available.

Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties

  • Childcare & Development: Providing high-quality physical and emotional care for children, including feeding, nappy changing, and supporting toileting. Implementing the EYFS curriculum through planned and spontaneous play-based activities that promote all areas of learning and development (PSED, Communication & Language, Physical, Literacy, Maths, Understanding the World, Expressive Arts & Design).
  • Observation & Planning: Conducting regular observations of key children to assess their progress, interests, and needs. Using these observations to contribute to individual learning journeys and to plan next steps and tailored activities that challenge and support each child effectively.
  • Safety & Wellbeing: Maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment in accordance with strict Ofsted and health & safety standards. Conducting daily risk assessments, ensuring all equipment is safe and fit for purpose, and following all safeguarding and child protection policies rigorously to ensure every child's welfare is paramount.
  • Partnership with Parents: Building positive, professional, and communicative relationships with parents and carers. Providing daily verbal feedback, contributing to parent meetings, and sharing children's achievements and developments through digital or paper learning journals.
  • Team Collaboration: Working effectively as part of a wider nursery team, including Room Leaders, Nursery Managers, and other practitioners. Attending staff meetings, contributing to continuous improvement, and supporting students and apprentices where required.

Frequently Asked Questions

What experience do I need to be a Nursery Nurse with labourer.agency?

We require a minimum of a Level 2 qualification in Childcare/Early Years and proven hands-on experience in a nursery or similar setting. This ensures you can confidently step into our partner nurseries and provide the high standard of care they expect. For those with substantial experience but formalising qualifications, we can advise on pathways. Explore all our opportunities on our Find Jobs portal.

How quickly can I start working after applying?

For candidates with all their documentation ready (including a valid DBS on the Update Service), we can often facilitate a start within 48-72 hours for urgent needs. The speed depends on your compliance status and client interview availability. Our process is designed for speed, much like our same-day temp worker services in other sectors.

Do you offer any training or support for professional development?

Absolutely. While primary CPD may be offered by the host nursery for long-term placements, labourer.agency provides access to online training modules covering key areas like safeguarding updates, paediatric first aid refreshers, and behaviour management. We are committed to your career growth, a principle that extends across all our sectors, including Healthcare Staffing.

What areas of Birmingham B4 do you cover?

Birmingham B4 covers the core city centre area, including parts of the Jewellery Quarter, Aston University campus, and surrounding business districts. We also place Nursery Nurses in neighbouring postcodes like B1, B2, B3, B5, and B7. We match you with roles based on your location preferences and travel capabilities. See all our locations.

Can temporary work lead to a permanent position?

Yes, a significant portion of our temporary nursery assignments evolve into temp-to-perm or direct permanent offers. It's an excellent way for both you and the nursery to ensure it's a perfect fit before committing permanently. We actively facilitate these transitions, just as we do in our construction recruitment division.
